Introduction • In Reception your child will attend school on a full- time basis. Morning: 8.45am – 11.30am Lunch: 11.30 – 12.45pm Afternoon: 12.45pm – 3.15pm • There are 3 Reception Classes. • Children will meet their new teacher on Monday 4 th July at 9.15 – 10.00am. School begins Tuesday 30 th August 2016 • • Attendance and arriving at school on time. • Holidays
What can you do to help? • Encourage your child to go to the toilet on their own. • Send your child to school in clothes they can manage. • Encourage your child to do up their own zips and buttons. • Encourage your child to be as independent as possible. • Time
School Dress Code • At Mellor we expect ALL children to come to school wearing the correct dress code. • Please make sure ALL of your child’s clothing and footwear in fully labelled to avoid lost property. • Jewellery should not be worn.
• Plain trousers/skirts/tunics/tracksuits- black, grey or blue • Sweat shirts- black, grey or blue • Polo shirts or cotton T-shirts- black, blue or white • Footwear- black without heels or trainers. No flip flops or slip ons. Wellingtons for outdoor play and learning. • Book bags (please ensure your child brings this to school each day) • PE kit – shorts or jogging bottoms and a plain white or blue t-shirt.
Healthy Schools Award The Healthy Schools Award was obtained in the 2006. Children will be offered a free piece of fruit during snack time and milk until they turn 5. You need to register and pay for the milk through the ‘Cool Milk’ scheme we use in school. We ask you to continue to support us, particularly in providing your child with healthy packed lunches and snacks. This year all children in Reception will be entitled to a free school dinner. These are all healthy balanced school dinners.
The Early Years Curriculum The Early Years Curriculum covers the following areas of learning:- We cover the following areas:- • Personal, Social & Emotional Development • Physical Development • Language and Communication • Literacy • Maths • Understanding The World • Expressive Art and Design • We encourage all learning to take place in both the inside and outside the classroom. Therefore, it is important that you provide your child with the appropriate clothing and footwear to suit the weather.

Opportunities for parents Parent/child morning activities • You will have the opportunity to take part in parent and child activities each morning throughout the year and find out what we are learning about in class. Adult courses • There will also be opportunities to attend courses focussing on how to support your own and your child’s learning. Parent Class Representatives
Contact with the school • Please ensure that all personal information is updated via the school office so that we have the appropriate information to hand in the case of an emergency. • If your child is unwell, please let the office know as soon as possible. • If another adult is picking your child up from school, please let the office or their teacher know.
