Tunnel Alignment ‘Above’ CityLink alignment: • Will significantly impact on landscape, heritage and environmental values. • Will result in loss of existing trees • Future landscape will not support healthy tree growth. • Result in inability to re-establish Linlithgow Elm Avenue (Primary Significance) • Result in permanent scar line inconsistent with existing character. ‘Below’ CityLink alignment: • Preserves existing landscape

Technical Note 040 Point 19 MMRA aims to double the baseline tree canopy cover by 2040 by ensuring that every tree removed will be replaced and that an additional tree will be planted back in the localised area. Response Not possible in localised area, suggest compensation provided to CoM to deliver.
Summary • Location of temporary access shaft not to impact on existing parkland . Alternative location ie Linlithgow Ave suggested as it could realise increased open space as legacy. • Tunnel alignment above CityLink not supported due likely permanent loss of healthy parkland. • Compensation from tree loss to reflect contemporary valuation of urban trees and to enable ‘double’ replanting.
