The Aerospace & Defense Forum The Los Angeles Chapter June 16, 2017 Support Existing Businesses in A&D Context • Southern California was a pioneer in transforming the industry with giants such as Northrop, Howard Hughes and Donald Douglas; as well as the thousands of local suppliers. Supporting Aerospace and Defense • Los Angeles remains the largest manufacturing hub in the United States • 365,000 workers in the Los Angeles area and over • 25,000 firms classified as manufacturing • The Mayor took a strong position on aerospace when he assumed office, having an industry liaison, and leading the SoCal region in efforts to improve the industrial ecosystem around the A&D industry. 9 Strategy: AMP SoCal Federal & Regional Support • Lobbying Defense Dept to keep Los Angeles Air Force Base and supporting Northrop Grumman for the $60 billion Long Range Strike Bomber contract in Palmdale (thousands of jobs and new local supplier contracts) • AMP SoCal & IMCP Designation: Resulting in $140M in federal dollars to the region, and over $1B in leveraged investments as a result of the designation. • AMP SoCal Partners worked with over A&D companies that will receive over $28M in state tax credits via CA Competes, with their commitment to invest over $1B into the region. • Mayor’s Aerospace Liaison is the Chair of the Site & Infrastructure Development Pillar Committee, in addition to serving on the Executive Council. 10 5

The Aerospace & Defense Forum The Los Angeles Chapter June 16, 2017 Developing the A&D Industry Next Steps • Phase II: Advanced Manufacturing Partnership of Southern California (AMPSoCal) – Bringing it back to the suppliers • Supplier development program, in collaboration with large OEMs, to help SoCal’s A&D industry manage an increasingly complex and cost sensitive supply chain. • FAA Drone Advisory Committee – Harmonizing policy across jurisdictions • UAV Policy & Aerial Innovation Zones – Preparing for the next generation of aerospace entrepreneurs Contact Information • Mayor’s Office Aerospace/Manufacturing Liaison: Adrienne Lindgren – Adrienne.Lindgren@lacity.org / 213-610-8277 11 Increase International Trade Mayor’s Export Council & Export Program • Export Council: Established in December 2015 to develop initiatives to increase employment opportunities and business growth through exports o 12 private sector executives: Ivan Rosenberg, Managing Partner, InVista Associates o Diverse : machinery, finance, shipping, architecture, electronics, energy, and more o Convene export events to bring together the international trade community & Provide L.A. companies the tools and resources to succeed with exports • Export Program: Launched in October 2016 to connect Los Angeles businesses to growing international markets o 96% of the world’s consumers are outside the U.S. o Every $1 billion in exports supports nearly 6,000 jobs o Partners: Mayor’s Export Council, Los Angeles Regional Export Council (LARExC), Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board and U.S. Department of Commerce Outreach Advise Assist 12 6
