We Make Education Apps • Children have issues with fine motor skills. • Little understanding of onscreen elements. • They love to hold things the “wrong” way.
Stepping Stones • Create Paths to guide you through the day. • Visual, audio or text prompts. • Designed to harness technology to increase independence and flexibility.
Current & Future Advancements • Touch Screens • Visual • Gestures • Connectivity
Touch Screens
Siri • Siri can now control basic functions of your iPhone, like opening apps or changing settings. • Reminder + Notes + Maps + Find My Friends. • If Apple opens Siri up to 3rd party developers it becomes very exciting.
Switch Control • Allows the device to be controlled through an adaptive accessory, like the camera. • It’s a very powerful tool when combined with VoiceOver.
Haptic Technology • Creates the illusion that a piece of glass is a tactile surface to provide non-visual feedback. • Apple Dual Motor feedback patent. • Dynamic haptic buttons.
Visual
Oculus Rift • Immersive visual environment. • Enables the creation of virtual worlds. • Do you have an idea how it could be used?
Google Glass • Hands free. Can be used either as a visual or auditory tool. • Extremely simple spoken or touch interface. • Front facing camera makes it a handy diagnostic tool via video chat.
Gestures
Kinect • It can detect any type of gesture with excellent range. • Highly customisable. If you can think of a new way of interacting with it, it can probably be done. • Cheap and readily available.
Leap Motion • Can be used to manipulate a PC without the use of a keyboard or mouse. • Can detect up to 10 digits or objects. • Very cheap and flexible.
Connectivity
Google Hangout • Fast, reliable and free video communication. • Interpreter support. • Highly accessible with no mouse controls required.
NBN • Enables faster & more reliable communication via higher quality video and audio. • Great for removing distance barriers. • Who knows what the future will hold?
The Distant Future • Wearable computers - can they help us monitor medical conditions? • Human-Machine Interface - the possibilities are limitless when we can integrate so tightly.
