  1. Malmos’ Math Class Tips to Know

  2. Daily Schedule • Bell Rings to begin class – in seats doing Bellwork • Previous Night’s HW Questions • New Lesson • Quiz • Bell Rings – I will dismiss you from your seats… we do NOT line up at the door, EVER.

  3. Bellwork • Bellwork gives you a snapshot EACH day of what you will see on the Chapter Test and/or the Final Exam. • Every day you are being prepared for the final and it is YOUR responsibility to keep the bellwork problems to study for the final in December. • Bellwork is also used to remind you of the skills you SHOULD know for the new day’s lesson.

  4. Notebook • 3-ring binder (no spiral notebooks) • Looseleaf paper (no ripped portions on the paper from a spiral notebook) • Dividers used to separate Bellwork , Notes , Homework, Classroom Info, and Misc . • Notebook Grades will be given during the semester based on the quality of the notes and organization of your binder.

  5. Previous Night’s HW • You must be READY to ask questions immediately after Bellwork. If I have to wait for you to figure out which questions you need to ask, then we will move right to the new lesson. • We will spend no more than 10 minutes on the previous night’s HW. If you need additional help, you’ll need to get help outside of class time.

  6. Homework • Do HW each night to be ready for the next day’s lesson. • Check the answers to your homework AS you work the problems. • Review the previous lessons notes. • Be prepared to ask questions the next day in class on problems you attempted but did could not get the correct answer.

  7. New Lesson • I will teach you a new lesson, giving you examples and then allowing you to try. • You’ll be taught SKILLS required to complete the homework assignments • You’ll be required to THINK and PARTICIPATE during the lesson. • Think FURTHER than the problems we are doing in class. • EXPAND your thinking.

  8. Quiz • Quizzes are TIMED. • Quizzes will be given with or without notice. • Quizzes will cover any material from the previous day or prior.

  9. Absences • If you are absent, you are responsible for getting the notes for your Notebook and for doing the work. • You have ONE DAY to make up your absence.

  10. Hall Passes • You may leave the room 6 times throughout the semester. This includes nurse, drinking fountain, locker… any reason you leave the room. • You MUST have your passes to leave the room. • Any passes that you have left over will be used for extra credit.

  11. Test Retakes • There are no test re-takes. • IF a midterm is offered in your class, then it may be used to replace a low test grade over the material it covers. • The final exam will be used as a grade replacement on the lowest test from the course.

  12. Things to do to achieve your goal • You need to understand your homework, not just do it. • You need to maintain your understanding of previous concepts as they will continue to appear on tests without notice. • You need to review your notes each night for the current chapter, at the very least. • Utilize the Classroom Website.

  13. Supplies Needed • 2-inch 3-ring binder • 5 dividers • Graph paper and looseleaf paper • Compass and protractor • Pencils and erasers • Highlighters • Graphing Calculator will be helpful (Casio 9750, 9860, PRIZM)

  14. Classroom Website • Google “Melissa Malmos” • Choose the first link “Home – Melissa Malmos” • Save it in your FAVORITES. • Use the website DAILY.
