In 2014 - 2015:  Monitored more than 270 bills  Provided testimony on more than 70 bills  Coordinated lobbying efforts with stakeholders  Hosted Annual Legislative Day Luncheon  Provided the GreenSheet and legislative alerts  Provided the Monitor and State Board updates  Succeeded in supporting bills: Common Core Standards implementation, Pre-K, and student safety  Succeeded in opposing bills: tax credit-financed vouchers, shift of burden of proof, and MOE

Policy Services: • LSA policy listserv alerts for member staff on the latest issues facing schools • Statewide training on the latest school policy issues • Facilitation of sharing policies and regulations between member districts • Seminars-To-Go on a wide range of policy topics • Model and sample policies addressing developing areas of need

  18. In 2014 - 2015: MABE conducted:  Caroline Superintendent Search  Superintendent Search overview presentation in Wicomico County

In 2014 - 2015, Officers and Members: • Represented MABE at all meetings of the Maryland State Board of Education • Participated in leadership meetings with Governor – Elect Larry Hogan and other members of his Transition Team, various leaders of the Maryland General Assembly, the Maryland State Education Association, and the Maryland Association of Counties

  20. • Established/enhanced partnerships with numerous associations in the Maryland education community • Participated in the National School Boards Association Advocacy Institute, represented the Maryland Association at the NSBA Annual Conference, Leadership Conference and the Northeast Region Meeting • Formed two Ad Hoc advisory committees both to inform MABE’s representatives on statewide groups and to ensure local board members are knowledgeable about critical education issues

  21. • Participated in press conferences for education funding with the state legislative leaders, Maryland State Educators Association, and numerous education advocates • Continued implementing a technology initiative to more effectively manage MABE’s infrastructure • Testified on proposed legislation that would affect school systems and public education in the State of Maryland
