WHY LOVE YOUR HEART? ♥ About 75 million American adults have high blood pressure —that’s 1 in every 3 adults . ♥ About 1 in 3 American adults has prehypertension — blood pressure numbers that are higher than normal — but not yet in the high blood pressure range. ♥ In 2014, high blood pressure was a primary or contributing cause of death for more than 1,100 deaths each day . ♥ High blood pressure costs the nation $48.6 billion each year. High blood pressure usually has no warning signs or symptoms, so many people don't realize they have it. 3

LOVE YOUR HEART 2017: RESULTS 53,307 blood pressure screenings were performed at 340 sites by more than 160 organizations in the US and Mexico. ♥ 67% (32,166) of these screenings were conducted in Mexico across six states (Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas). ♥ 1,147 screenings also took place in Orange and Riverside Counties, Arizona, Texas, and New Bedford, Massachusetts. 9

SAN DIEGO COUNTY RESULTS AGE OF PARTICIPANTS SCREENED 18-24 years 65+ years 7.3% 15.7% Two-thirds of ♥ participants age 18-25, and half of participants age 25-44, had normal blood pressures.* ♥ More than 70% of 25-44 years participants age 65 years 38.2% and older had elevated 45-64 years 38.8% blood pressure.* *7,910 participants screened provided their age range 14

SAN DIEGO COUNTY RESULTS 7,995 participants provided their gender. ♥ 2 of every 3 participants screened in San Diego County were women. ♥ Just over half of female participants had an elevated blood pressure. ♥ 70% of all male participants had an elevated blood pressure. SAN DIEGO COUNTY RESULTS 6,543 participants at a Love Your Heart site reported a zip code of residence in San Diego County ♥ 2 out of every 5 participants living in San Diego County were from either South or Central Regions. ♥ 7 of 10 residents of Alpine and Palomar-Julian who were screened were likely to have an elevated blood pressure. ♥ Residents of the sub-regional areas of Coastal, Laguna-Pine Valley or Peninsula were more likely to have a normal blood pressure . ♥ Laguna-Pine Valley had the highest percent of residents with normal have blood pressure ( 57% ). 18

SAN DIEGO COUNTY RESULTS There were 3,610 participants with a reported blood pressure who responded to a question about use of blood pressure medications. ♥ Of these, 19.2% said they were using blood pressure medication . ♥ Of those who stated they used medication, 77.3% had an elevated blood pressure . 19
