  3. At LNDL, it takes two… Independent academic library in Northwest Baltimore serving:  Loyola University Maryland  Notre Dame of Maryland University  6,100 FTE  FY18 Acquisitions – 91% electronic  125,000 sf building renovated in 2008

  4. Lessons Learned… PRACTICE #1 WHY ? FORMAT Get To A Shared  Enables Shared Learning  Brief Overview / Background YES!  Encourages Collaboration  Recommendation  Tells a Clear Story of Impact  Option Analysis including relevant three year data Pitch Ideas  Facilitates Data Informed trends, user feedback, and Decision-Making with budget impact  Creates Opportunities For All  Proposed implementation One Page Levels of the Organization to plan including Engage Proposals communication approach and material drafts

PRACTICE #2 Lessons Learned…  Regular meetings matter Foster  Facilitates and documents decision-making for expedited action Collaboration  Shared agenda creation and note taking facilitates engagement with  Clear purpose eliminates redundancy Meetings  Provides scheduled time for brainstorming and creative thinking in support of project management, outreach and innovation

Spot Potential  Plan your next several talent moves in  Invest in institutional capability building by growing talent from Others within to fill new and emerging roles  Learn to assess candidate potential in the hiring process  Be creative with student workers

PRACTICE #4 Lessons Learned…  Use clear questions to create effective charge documents to increase productivity of task forces Ask Powerful  Tap into the power of curiosity to learn more about users, staff, Questions partners, and yourself  “If you had a magic wand, how would you….”  Powerful questions create momentum for change

Stay Grounded  Make reward and recognition a part of day-to-day activities with  Get to know your people and what matters to them Gratitude  Provide opportunities for others to say “thanks”  Including saying thanks to each other  Celebrate with partners

BONUS Lessons Learned… PRACTICE!  When in doubt, count to 10…FOR REAL!  Practice active listening to understand the need behind the words Press Pause! and behavior you are observing  Help each other to press pause  You are human, you do NOT have all the answers  It is OK to say, “I don’t know, let me get back to you.”
