  4. What is Ska:na The word Ska:na is an Oneida word that means "PEACE". Incorporated in 2003, SFLC is a Non-Profit Organization Helping our Children to a better future. Ska:na Family Learning Centre offers programs for children 3 months to 12 years old, their families and rest of community. Ska:na serves families through a holistic approach sharing the Original Peoples’ (First Nations (Status and non -Status); Metis and Inuit) Cultures with the Windsor/Essex & Chatham/Kent Communities.   6. Aboriginal Ontario Early Years Aboriginal Ontario Early Years (A/OEY) – Open to all OEY families who have a desire to learn, along with their children, a holistic way of life based on Original Peoples’ cultures.

  9. Holistic Life-Cycle Achievement Program With the assistance of an onsite, Child and Family Program Coordinator, SFLC offers supportive services to all families in our community. The role of the Child and Family Program Coordinator is to work together, in partnership, with other organizations to provide parents support services. the following services:  Community Information and Referral  Community Outreach,  Liaise between families and agencies,  Family Needs assessments,  Emergency assistance and/or crisis intervention  Program development and promotion  Educational workshops for parents and caregivers  Welcoming communities through an Original Peoples’ perspective

  11. The Ska:na Difference • 84.1% of Original Peoples now live off of their First Nations in Urban and rural settings. • In a recent study done in Toronto with Original Peoples’ childcare is named as a gap in critical service, Ska:na is responding to this need and will continue.
