Listening to Genealogy Podcasts Definition ​ : Podcasts function like radio programs but are Internet files -- audio, no video -- that you can listen to anywhere, anytime, as long as you have a device that can connect to the Internet. (A webinar has both audio and video and is not a podcast.) Podcasts are normally ​ free ​ . Why should I listen to them? ​ For the same reasons you’d listen to a radio program instead of a TV program -- usually when you’re doing something else and don’t want to watch a screen. Driving, in the kitchen or workshop, gardening, exercising, walking. What hardware do I need to listen to podcasts? ​ You need to have one device that can connect to the Internet and has a speaker or headphones: a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone. Or you can use an “always-on” device like Amazon Echo or Google Home. What software do I need ​ ? Try Podcast Republic, Overcast, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Spotify, Pocket Casts, or Google “podcast apps.” Try several to see which interface you like.
