Lunch: Please work with your child at home to use good table manners, practice opening their own drinks, food containers, yogurt and to clean up their own trash. As of August 26 th you may have lunch with your child in the cafeteria. We ask that you only have your child sit with you in the designated area. Please have your ID to check in.
Please have your child at school every day. Earliest drop off is 7:20. If you want your child to eat breakfast here at the school please drop off at 7:20. 7:50 your child will be marked Tardy. . If you need to schedule doctor appointments please try to do this outside of school hours. We ask that you send in your child’s medical notes/excuses in the front agenda binder the following day. If your child does not attend 50% of a school day, he/she will be marked absent. No checkouts after 2:00pm. If your child misses 10 days of school or tardy 10 times or checked out 10 times then administration will contact you.

Chaperones must be an approved volunteer and our deadline is October 1 st . You may complete the application for each member of your family who plans to chaperone on a field trip. Visit polkschoolsfl.com/getinvolved **In addition, you will need 3 service hours volunteering at Churchwell Elementary. It is $25 to be an approved volunteer.

There will be a Homework Calendar provided weekly with homework suggestions that are strongly encouraged. If your child needs additional support please contact your child’s teacher. Remember to read daily with your child. High Frequency Words – we will put a list in their agenda binder for your child to practice reading & to use when writing a sentence. We will introduce 4-5 new words each week going down the list per nine weeks.
Sight Words We have 127 Kindergarten sight words. Your child will receive 4-5 a week to practice. Practice! Practice!
How can I help at home? - Read, Read, Read! Reading at home can make a huge difference! The most important thing you can do at home is read. It builds their vocabulary, comprehension and builds a lifelong love of reading. - Read at least 1 book every night to your child.
What should my child be able to do before ENTERING Kindergarten? * Recognize most letters in the alphabet and produce their sound. *Identify Colors *Orally Count to 10 * Recognize basic shapes ( triangle, circle, square, and rectangle) *Print First Name Independently

Uniforms Shirts : Navy Blue Hunter Green, or White shirts either polos or we have school shirts for sale in the office. Shirts/Pants : Khaki, black or blue. Students can wear jeans/ jean shorts but they CANNOT have holes, rips or designs on them. Skorts or skirts are also fine. Jackets: Can be green, navy blue, royal blue or white. Must be solid color.
