SAT vs. ACT SAT : 3 hours, 50 minutes (with essay) • Content: Reading, Writing & Language, Math, and Optional Writing • Shift to curriculum focus (with the ‘new’ SAT) • Four answer choices per question – No penalty for answering incorrectly • 400-1600 scale ACT : 3 hours 40 minutes (with essay) • Content: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Optional Writing • Curriculum focused • Interpretation and analysis within the natural sciences • No penalty for incorrect answers – best to guess, if unsure • 1-36 scale
SAT Subject Tests One hour exams that test knowledge in a specific • subject area (US History, Biology, Math Level 2, Chemistry, Spanish, etc.) Some colleges require or recommend • Often recommended for students who may enter a STEM • major (Math Level 2 + Biology/Chemistry/Physics)
