John 14:16a (KJV) “I will pray [to] the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter.”
John 16:8 (KJV) “When he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”
The word ‘reprove’ is the Greek word ‘ elegcho ’ It means to expose or to convict, such as to convict someone of a crime
The Conviction of Sin
Ephesians 2:1 (NIV) “You were dead in your transgressions and sins.”
Jesus said the Comforter would bring conviction to the world, “because they do not believe in me.” (John 16:9, ESV)
Romans 2:4 (ESV) “God's kindness is meant to lead you [us] to repentance.”
The word “lead” is the Greek word ‘ago,’ which paints the picture of God graciously leading us where we could never go by ourselves
The Conviction of Righteousness
Philippians 3:8b-9 (ESV) “I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.”
Ephesians 2:10a (NIV) “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus.”
The Conviction of Judgment
John 16:11 tells us that the Comforter reproves the world concerning judgment because “the ruler of this world is judged.” (ESV)
The word “world” is the Greek word ‘ kosmos ,’ which describes the ordered systems in which mankind lives
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NLT) “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”
Webster’s Dictionary defines grace as “unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification.”
Romans 8:1 (NLT) “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”
