IPv4 • IPv4 space 4.294.967.296 IP addresses (not all of them are usable) • It seems a lot of space, right? • But the world population is almost 7 billion people • 87% use cell phone and 35% use Internet • There are people who use more than one IP • They don’t seem so much anymore, right?

HOW TO PROCEED?

Three possible options • Carrier grade NAT / Large scale NAT • IPv4 market transfer • Deploy IPv6

Network Address Translation (NAT) • Allow multiple devices sharing Internet connection with just one public IP. • It is not a sustainable solution.

What are ISPs doing in LAC? • Most of ISPs are using CGNAT – Mobile network – Residential user (xDSL+HFC) – When customers complain they allocate them public IP. • Corporate customers usually receive public IP.
