I. Background Information • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chad has requested IOM to assist the Government Authorities in receiving circa 1000 Chadian Migrants that were expelled from Libya and that are on their way to Chad on 2 July 2012. • IOM mobilized its team and resources in the Faya Largeau Region to provide the necessary support on 07 July 12. • IOM send additional operation and medical teams plus supplies from N’Djamena to respond to the needs of the arriving migrants on 12 July 12. II. Arrivals • Total Migrants Arrived at Faya = 705 • Total Trucks Arrived at Faya = 10 INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION 4 FOR MIGRATION
III. Services Provided to Migrants 1. Migrants registered = 705 2. Migrants profiled = 58 3. Age of Migrants = between 23 and 48 years old 4. Sex of Migrants = All Male 5. Temporary Accommodation. The Governor of Bourkou Region put at the IOM Disposal the old TC in Faya for the temporary accommodation of the arriving migrants while the Ministry of Social Action provided to IOM 40 tents that have been erected in the TC. 6. Provision of Wet Feeding and NFI; All migrants received three meals a day and Non Food Items (NFI). INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION 5 FOR MIGRATION
7. Medical Care and Referral to Faya Hospital. • All arrived migrants were medically screened. • Minor medical cases were provided with medical care by the IOM Medical team while 32 cases were referred to the Faya hospital. • 2 cases died. • 14 discharged and traveled • 16 still in the hospital but in stable medical conditions. Secondary Movements of Migrants. – By Trucks = 681 – By Land Cruiser (Vulnerable Cases) = 6 – Number of Trucks Utilized = 8 – Number of Land Cruisers Utilized = 1 – Major Finals Destinations = N’Djamena, Abeche, Mao – Migrants Currently in the Transit Centre (TC) = 0 – Capacity of Transit Centre (Number of Tents) = 40 – Trucks en Route from Libya to Faya = Unknown INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION 7 FOR MIGRATION
IV. Coordination • IOM informed the UN/RC and OCHA Chad about the emergency as soon as it started. • Additionally a Press Briefing Note (PBN) was produced at the IOM Head Quarters that was shared with UNCT and Migration Task Force in Chad. • IOM Requested OCHA to organize a Migration Task Force (MTF) Meeting on 16 July 12 for briefing of the TF members.
