  2. GER Objectives Goal 1 - Connect landscapes and habitats – Improve the connectivity, condition and resilience of landscapes and ecosystems and halt further decline and loss of species Goal 2 - Link people and landscapes - Increase the number of people working together to improve the connectedness and resilience of landscapes Goal 3 - Communicate effectively – Improved the transfer of knowledge, skills and practices through community Sugar Glider engagement, involvement and education Vision Goal 4 - Apply knowledge – Improve A 3,600km ‘ continental lifeline ’ Linking understanding of species, ecosystems and people, reserves and habitats Within and local landscapes and their requirements for across landscapes from Western Victoria , long term health through NSW and the ACT to the Queensland Wet Tropics

  6. K2W Achievements 2012-2017 Since 2012 the partnership has engaged over 80 individual landholders and 20 Aboriginal and community groups to revegetate over 800 hectares , collaborative weed control across 5,000 hectares and a cross tenure pest management program covering over 50,000 hectares And a further 13,000 hectares covered by conservation agreement Sugar Glider mechanisms

  7. K2WGlideways The K2W Glideways project consolidates our approach to conservation and • introduces a meaningful way to engage and inspire the wider community to be part of our work. Gliding possums make the perfect flagship species as their needs (functional • connectivity, security of management and sufficient habitat free from threats) align with the broader conservation needs of so many other native species. Focusing on a single species helps us simplify the conservation message and • enables more effective communication about the value and benefits of connectivity conservation in a way that people can relate to and be a part of. 8. Where we are working Sugar Glider Glideways is a collaborative program aimed at conserving gliders and their habitat through targeted projects in strategic locations across the Abercrombie Catchment

  9. Mapping & Monitoring Glider presence and distribution mapping - Spotlighting and camera trapping - Nest box and tree hollow checks Habitat survey - Food species surveys - Hollow-bearing trees Monitoring - Planting success Sugar Glider - Nest box usage - Feral predators

  10. Protect Habitat We encourage landholders to protect core glider habitat on their properties. We offer free property habitat assessments through Land for Wildlife which highlight the conservation values of the land and promote greater understanding of how habitat management can be Sugar Glider integrated with best farm practice.

  11. Reconnect Habitat We will be working with landholders and community groups in the Abercrombie Corridor to Increase the area of effective habitat available to gliders By planting trees and shrubs in priority areas we work to reconnect patches of glider habitat, creating stepping stones across the land. A number of incentives are available including for fencing and tubestock. Sugar Glider Our target is to plant 40,000 tubestock using local provenance native seed

  12. Connect Culture & Country Support connection with country through sharing of Aboriginal traditional knowledge and development of new opportunities. Schools Aboriginal Camp-out- Indigenous Astronomy. Traditional burning (protection of sacred sites). Identification of scar trees and artifacts. Opportunities to work on country.

  13. Managing Threats We are working with landholders to BARB BUSTERS remove/ replace or modify barb wire along wildlife corridors and in refuges such as roadsides, creeklines, areas between paddock trees, patches of native vegetation, and wetlands. To help reduce the impacts of feral FERAL FIGHTERS predators and invasive weeds we run a series of workshops to build the capacity of local landholders to undertake coordinated pest and Sugar Glider weed control programs in conjunction with WEED WHACKERS their Local Landcare Groups.

  14. Citizen Science Through citizen science we provide opportunities for local residents to get involved in helping their local environment by assisting to collect valuable data for our ongoing monitoring and research projects. These include the monitoring of native and pest species by landholders using infrared motion- detection cameras and recording the density of hollow-bearing trees in the landscape. And getting involved in our biannual Bioblitz Plans underway for Bioblitz Wombeyan Caves in November 2017

  15. Glideways Teaching & Schools program A program developed in collaboration with local teachers to involve local primary and secondary school students in activities to learn about and understand the importance and need for connectivity conservation and the value of large landscape projects such as the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative. The package is designed to make it easy for teachers to deliver across a range of Key Learning Areas linked to the NSW curriculum Sugar Glider
