  2. To provide: • a planning framework to facilitate the university’s continuing growth in a successfully re ‐ emerging downtown; and • a set of prioritized actions to Study establish the desired physical, economic, social and policy context Mandate in downtown Oshawa

  3. To properly prepare for growth of this magnitude, UOIT applied for funding from the federal government’s Community Adjustment Fund in January 2010. In mid ‐ August 2010 , the process of developing the Framework and Action Plan officially began. CAF Because this is Federal stimulus Funding money, the study must be completed by March 31, 2011 .

Priority • Develop new municipal parking Actions garages , the first by 2015 and a second by 2030, each for 600 spaces (City). • Confirm the need for more buses to meet student demand by 2015 and again by 2030 (Region).

  34. • The Framework and Action Plan is a critical planning document for UOIT and Oshawa • Nearly all of its elements have costs • Achieving the vision will require strong support from the university, the city and partners Costs at the regional, provincial and federal governments • The report proposes and prioritizes various actions so that required investments can be assessed as funding becomes available

Impact to Date • Downtown retail vacancies have dropped significantly due to UOIT Projected Impact • The cumulative economic impact of UOIT’s growth in the downtown between 2011 and 2015 will be: – $200 million in construction spending Economic – $64 million in consumer spending Impact – more than $94 million in taxes collected – 1,910 jobs created A Paradigm Shift is Underway
