The Project The result of a commitment between the ACTO and the German Government to finance a regional project in the area of biodiversity conservation, forest protection and climate change through non ‐ reimbursable financial cooperation of 10 million Euros through the German Development Bank (KfW) 6

07/03/2017 Agenda item: 15 Document: PTC/ESG - March 2017 - 25 Conclusions • Many opportunities for the application of new information and communication technologies in the enhancement or development of regional/national information systems • Need close links with developments in the international trade world , especially with regard to the establishment of Single Window systems • Need to monitor ongoing discussions among CITES Parties on issues related to traceability and standards Conclusions • Opportunities for collaboration with other regions that have progressed in the development of national and regional e ‐ permitting systems • Development of more effective communication systems among ACTO technical persons working on information systems, e ‐ permitting, traceability, etc. • Leeway to invest in subprojects to strengthen local stewardship and information management 12
07/03/2017 Agenda item: 15 Document: PTC/ESG - March 2017 - 25 Conclusions The Amazon region, with a few exceptions, has excellent knowledge of information systems and the elements necessary for the development or enhancement of e ‐ permitting systems. What is needed is more work to make compatible and interoperable information systems when possible and ensure that national e ‐ permitting systems are harmonized with international standards and norms . Conclusions Investment in infrastructure is also needed, including computer and network equipment Emphasis on adherence to global data and information standards and promotion on their use is also needed 13
