  3. GRANTS  Formerly the “GAIA Grants”  Cover three main areas:  International Collaborative Research  Internationalizing the Curriculum  Interdisciplinary Working Groups  Grants run for two years  Award amounts range from $8000 to $10,000

RUTGERS GLOBAL GRANTS BY THE NUMBERS  Started in 2012  Entering its sixth cycle  Over $1,000,000 in grants awarded  102 grantees, representing 27 schools across the university  At least 50 manuscripts published, with 40 more in progress  45 conference papers and invited lectures  Nearly 30 events at Rutgers including lectures, conferences, symposia, and workshops  82 graduate students and 37 undergraduate students participated in research projects around the world  7 new academic programs established (certificate programs, majors, minors)  10 non-Rutgers Global grant wins totaling more than $200,000 in additional funding (including NSF and NIH)

INTERNATIONALIZING THE CURRICULUM Internationalizin In ing th the e Cu Curriculu lum Grants are des esig igned to o mot otivate com omprehensive cu curricular revie iew at t th the e dep epartment or or program le level el with ith th the e aim im of of in incorporati ting g in inter ernational and cr cross-cultural per erspecti tives es as as in integ egral l part rts of of th the e under ergraduate (or (or gr graduate) exp xperience at t Rutg tgers.  The grants are meant to better assist faculty in preparing students for global competence. Proposals that encourage and facilitate study abroad as part of Rutgers degree programs will be reviewed favorably. Such proposals should incorporate study abroad into curricula in a way that is concrete, practical, affordable, and consistent with the timely completion of degree.  Consultation with Rutgers Global – Study Abroad is strongly encouraged during proposal and program development .

  6. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH The In International Col Colla laborative Res esearch Gr Grants s su support internatio ional rese esearch, , pr projects, , an and pr programs init itiated by y facult lty wit ith sch scholars s ar around the wor orld ld.  Successful proposals will outline a collaborative research project that makes a significant contribution to advancing a particular field of study.  The proposed activity will broaden or deepen Rutgers’ overall academic collaboration with an existing international university partner or will establish a new partnership that clearly offers opportunities for scholarly collaboration between the partner and additional Rutgers units.

  7. APPLYING FOR A GRANT  Pay careful attention to requirements for each grant as they vary.  Get help from your business specialist to complete budget form.  Make sure you have all of the necessary documentation.  Research should be legible to those outside of your field, because reviewers are often not subject matter experts.  Make the case for your grant. Why is it important? What is the benefit to Rutgers? What is new or innovative.

CHINA STRATEGIC INITIATIVE GRANTS This gr grant, facil ilitated by y the Ru Rutgers s Chin China Of Office, is s an an opp opportunity for or Ru Rutgers aca academic ic de departments s an and sch schools s to to de develop an and expand con onnections, s, pr programs, , an and coll ollaborations with th part partners in n Chin China.  Recipients are expected to work with their department/school to develop a strategic plan for engagement with China over the next three to five years.  The grant recipient should be committed to leading the formulation and implementation of the strategic plans as developed.  Since the funding is generated through external resources, the number and size of grant each year will be contingent upon the budget, as well as the quality of the applications.
