  4. I nstitut Pasteur The founding vision of I nstitut Pasteur is to im prove hum an health and w elfare through scientific discovery. Challenge Today : is to translate this vision into tw enty first century science and technology within a complex global framework confronted with environmental change, emerging infectious disease and non-infectious diseases. Aim : is to is to continue to im prove hum an health and w elfare through scientific discovery by having a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of environmental change on pathogens and their reservoirs as related to their mode of transmission, persistence and adaptation to humans. To integrate the most cutting edge technologies along with traditional natural history studies on pathogens, as well as to better understand the mechanisms leading to cancer and neurological diseases. 4
