— Ricardo Barbosa
“Today, the atheist is no longer the one who does not believe in God but the one who finds no relevance in God for his daily life. The new atheism doesn’t need to deny the faith; it only creates substitutes for it. It keeps the believer in the church, but away from his Saviour.” — Ricardo Barbosa
— Lucas 18.8 “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” — Luke 18.8
75 ABRAHAM 40 THE FATHER OF FAITH 188
Why is Abraham the Father of Faith? What can we learn with Abraham about living by faith?
GENESIS 12.1-4 1 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
GENESIS 12.1-4 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
GENESIS 12.1-4 1 Now the Lord said to Abram… THE BABEL ABRAM FLOOD
GENESIS 12.1-4 1 Now the Lord said to Abram… God blessed Noah and his THE sons and said to them, FLOOD “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. Genesis 9.1
And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” Genesis 11.3-4
Babel: Abram: they SAID to one the Lord SAID to Abram… another… Come, let us build I will make of you a ourselves a city… great nation… I will bless you and let us make a name for ourselves… make your name great… MAN GOD
First truth about faith: A fé não é aquilo que leva Deus a me ouvir, mas aquilo que me leva a ouvir Deus. Faith is not what causes God to hear me, but what leads me to listen to God.
GENESIS 12.1-4 1 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you… So Abram went, as the Lord had told him. In other words: Abram, come with me!
Abram did not know what was his destiny, but he knew he was not alone.
Two Movements: GOING LEAVING FORWARD (to say “no") (to say “yes”)
— Hebreus 11.8-10
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents… For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.” — Hebrews 11.8-10
Faith is the conviction and the firm decision to walk with God.
GENESIS 12.1-4 I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing… in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. BLESSED TO BLESS
The big question is not WHY we were chosen, but FOR WHAT we were chosen.
Third truth about faith: Viver pela fé significa ter a disposição de compartilhar sem medo o que Deus tem nos dado Living by faith means to be available to share without fear all the blessings God has given to us
Living by faith: ‣ Listening to God ‣ Walking with God ‣ Sharing the blessings from God
