HILLSIDE MINE COMMUNITY VOICE HILLSIDE PEPR – COASTAL & MARINE MANAGEMENT PLAN 7 AUGUST 2017
COASTAL AND MARINE MANAGEMENT PLAN OBJECTIVES OF PLAN The objective of this CMMP is to provide the framework for: • ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory requirements; • Rex Minerals Policies and Standards; • implementing tools and practices to manage and minimise the impact of mining activities on the coastal and marine environment; • providing details on marine monitoring responsibilities; and • maintaining an effective response mechanism to deal with issues and complaints. 2
COASTAL AND MARINE MANAGEMENT PLAN STATUS OF MARINE ENVIRONMENT • The upper Gulf St Vincent supports seagrass communities on sand substrates, dominated by Posidonia, Halophila and Heterozostera species. • Rocky reefs were also recorded, consisting of rock boulders and broken bottom reef with sparse macroalage and filter feeding communities. • Shipping out of Port Ardrossan, commercial and recreational fishing have had an impact on the seabed and fisheries. • The baseline survey identified metals including copper, zinc, arsenic and cobalt around the Wharf and elevated hydrocarbon concentrations in sediments off Rogues Point. 3
COASTAL AND MARINE MANAGEMENT PLAN STATUS OF COASTAL HABITATS • Exposed tidal flats provide important food and resting places for migratory shorebirds and nursery areas for fish species between Pine Point and Rogues Point. • The shorelines are characterised by sand, wrack, rocks and shell grit, and low dunes. • Vegetated sand dunes with sand stabilising plants and shrubs, with 47 coastal flora species identified. • 11 species of coastal birds. • Human activities have imposed impacts evident with erosion of cliffs and gullies, and introduced plant and marine species. 4

COASTAL AND MARINE MANAGEMENT PLAN CONTROL STRATEGIES • The main risks to the coastal and marine environment are from dust deposition on the coast and seabed, and runoff water from the mine. • The risks to the coastal and marine environment are negligible but Rex Minerals has developed a separate dust management plan (AQMP) and surface water management plan (SWMP). 7
COASTAL AND MARINE MANAGEMENT PLAN MONITORING PROGRAM Annual monitoring • Annual monitoring undertaken by suitably qualified person. • Focused on coastal and marine habitats between Pine Point and Rogues Point. • Annual surveys will involve visual inspection surveys and photo-point monitoring of cliff faces, gullies and intertidal habitats. • Annual survey of seagrass health and marine ecosystem. Records • Species composition and density of seagrass communities. • Seagrass physical parameters such as groundcover percentage, leaf length and biomass. • GPS referenced video transects of seabed habitats. • Visual and photographic evidence of coastal/foreshore habitats. 8
