About Middle College High School Founded in 2007 on CPCC’s Cato Campus. MCHS is a Cooperative Innovative High School program, which allows high schools to offer accelerated learning opportunities for students. Students are dual enrolled in both CMS and CPCC. Open to eligible rising 11 th and 12 th Grade students. 2
Program Goals For students to complete High School Diploma requirements. For students to earn transferable college credit, an Associates Degree, or Career/Industry certification at no cost. To focus on academics while in high school and college classes. To experience college in a supportive environment. 3
Additional Facts The Middle College HS becomes each student’s CMS school of record. All Middle College High Schools are located on CPCC campuses. Transportation is provided by CATS at no cost to students. The Middle College HS calendar is consistent with CPCC’s calendar and may differ from the rest of CMS. All High School Classes are taught on an Honors or AP Level . CPCC Classes are weighted the same as a AP credit on the CMS High School transcript. Students have access to all CPCC student amenities such as labs, libraries, and activities. 11 th grade students must earn a cumulative CPCC GPA of 2.0 or higher for the 11 th grade school year or they will return to their CMS home school for the 12 th grade. 4

Facts About Transfer Credit Most courses will transfer to all 4-year NC Public Universities. Private colleges and out-of-state colleges often have their own policies regarding transfer credits. Parents and students are encouraged to contact private schools and out-of-state institutions for course credit information. 6
The “Grade 13” Option Students may stay a third year in Middle College High School and take additional college classes with the opportunity to complete an Associates Degree and/or Career/Industry Certification. This is an optional program that is open to students who are in good academic standing with CMS and CPCC and have met all graduation requirements. Students take only CPCC classes and a CMS Grade 13 Seminar course during grade 13. 7

A Student Day ► Students will take CPCC courses that follow their Associate’s Degree or Career/Industry Certification pathways. CPCC Tuition and fees are free to MCHS students. ► Scheduling and course selection tends to be more flexible than most high schools . ► Students may take CPCC courses on ANY CPCC campus. ► Students are free to come and go during the day as long as they attend all scheduled classes. ► While high school classes are offered from 11:20-4:20, college classes may be offered in the morning, afternoon, evenings, or on weekends depending on student needs and course offerings. 9

Admission Requirements ► Have a current unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher. ► Meets CPCC criteria on the CPCC RISE tests or acceptable alternative assessment. (PSAT, Pre-ACT, ACT, SAT) ► Responsible and mature student able to navigate the unique schedule and calendar. ► By the end of 10 th grade, must have successfully completed: English I and English II World History, Civics & Economics Health/PE Biology Math I and Math II ► Must have English III and Math III credit to apply for 12 th grade. ► To be eligible for the CMS Lottery, we assume that each applicant will pass his or her current courses. 11

Next Steps NON-CMS FAMILIES: complete the future enrollment process through CMS Student Placement website before January 3 rd in order to receive a CMS ID# to be able to enter the CMS MCHS Lottery.
