HALFWAY COMMUNITY PARK: A NEW PARK FOR CARDONALD Pauline Fletcher, Community Initiatives Manager
Why a new Park for Cardonald? • A ‘sea of green’ • Very few outdoor opportunities for residents • Topography ‘the slope’ – a problem but also an opportunity • Lack of usable north/south pedestrian routes/connections Over dominance of roads and parking • • Site rated as ‘low quality/poor’ by Glasgow City Council’s Open Space Audit
Why a Housing Association? • Complementary to the investment in Moss Heights Flats • High number of children and families within the flats • Commitment to ‘wider role’ activity In a position to invest some capital – assist with attracting match. • • Who else was going to do it?!
