Because the entry lookup and QoS scheduling demands and the corresponding models are stable, using the ASIC technology for entry lookup and QoS scheduling can improve router performance significantly. Integrated with the high performance of ASIC and flexible scalability of NP, the SR8800 adopts a three-engine forwarding structure, namely, NP service engine, QoS engine and entry lookup engine. The service engine uses the NP technology to support flexible service scalability and upgrade.
