Global School Health Policies and Practices Survey (G-SHPPS)
G-SHPPS Goal � Generate scientifically credible school-level data that describe characteristics of school health policies and practices nationwide
G-SHPPS Purpose � Help countries develop priorities, establish programmes, and advocate for resources for school health policies and practices � Establish trends in school health policies and practices � Allow countries, international agencies, and others to make comparisons across countries regarding school health policies and practices
G-SHPPS Key Elements � Conducted among primary and secondary school principals and head teachers � Using the following: – Standardized scientific sample selection process – Common methodology – Common self-administered questionnaire
G-SHPPS Questionnaire Content � 152 total questions – General school information - 8 – Healthy and safe school environment - 39 – Health services - 36 – Nutrition services - 26 – Health education - 28 – Physical education – 15 � Glossary at end � G-SHPPS questionnaire is NOT modifiable at this time
G-SHPPS Sampling � Nationally representative � Selection of schools with equal probability � Proportional distribution of primary and secondary schools � n ~ 300 to 360 schools per country � Inclusion of GSHS sample if appropriate
G-SHPPS Survey Administration � Self-administered questionnaire � Answers recorded on computer scannable answer sheets � Distributed by mail or personal delivery � Returned by mail or personal delivery
