Exciting times www.fve.org - Revision medicated feed/vet med legislation - Re-evaluation EC action plan on AMR - Many events/congresses - Many AMR related surveys: - 6 EFSA/EMA questions on antibiotic use in food- producing animals and possibly to reduce - Colistin Federation of Veterinarians of Europe
Regarding ESVAC (1/3) www.fve.org − Welcomes 5 th ESVAC report & ESVAC strategy 2016-2020 − Welcomes intention to supplement sales with consumption data by species/subspecies; while acknowledging this is not easy − 4 main goals for FVE: 1. Get all EU/EFTA countries into ESVAC 2. Ctn work on antimicrobial data collection internationally 3. Ctn to work on having a robust comparable system on antibiotic use and amr in humans & animals (with some ecosystem indicators?) 4. Use both data for risk assessment in relation to AMR Federation of Veterinarians of Europe
Regarding ESVAC (2/3) … www.fve.org • To consider: Many differences between countries/regions: Species/subspecies farmed Production systems (intensive/extensive) Climate conditions Diseases present Availability of antibiotics but also alternatives or preventive measures Companion Animals, Rabbits, Turkeys, etc Investigate why antibiotic use in some regions/species is higher e.g. no preventive vaccines available, ZnOx not allowed, etc. Federation of Veterinarians of Europe
www.fve.org Regarding ESVAC (3/3) … • What is the European Parliament asking: Amendment 162 “Member States shall collect relevant comparable and sufficiently detailed data, at per-farm level, on the volume of sales in terms of weight and cost for each antimicrobial type and the use of veterinary antimicrobial medicinal products including the species treated, the disease diagnosed and the route of administration.” Federation of Veterinarians of Europe
www.fve.org Regarding ESVAC (3/3) … • What is the European Parliament asking: Why? Amendment 162 “Member States shall collect relevant comparable and sufficiently detailed data, at per-farm level, on the volume of sales in terms of weight and cost for each antimicrobial type and the use of veterinary antimicrobial medicinal products including the species treated, the disease diagnosed and the route of administration.” Nice, but often differential diagnosis Federation of Veterinarians of Europe
