Business Acceleration Services for SMEs Taken from the EC Impact report of the EIC Accelerator/SME Instrument
Who should apply? A consortium of min 3-5 participants, from min 3 countries. Mandatory industry involvement: Allocation of at least 60% overall budget to industry; or Min. 2 industry partners out of a consortium of 3-4; or Min. 3 industry partners out of a consortium of 5 Fully bottom-up ; classification by keywords
Highlights Consortium that could involve mature and ripe entities Main aim: market uptake of ground-breaking innovations; shape a new market and achieve wider deployment “Last push”
Technology Readiness Level TRL1: Basic principles observed TRL2: Technology concept formulated TRL3: Experimental proof of concept TRL4: Technology validated in lab TRL5: Technology validated in relevant environment (industrially relevant environment in the case of key enabling technologies) TRL6: Technology demonstrated in relevant environment (industrially relevant environment in the case of key enabling technologies) TRL7: System prototype demonstration in operational environment TRL8: System complete and qualified TRL9: Actual system proven in operational environment (competitive manufacturing in the case of key enabling technologies, or in space)
What is the money for? How much? 1-3 M € (70% funding rate for profit entities; 100% funding rate for How long? ~2 years project non profit entities ) Eligible activities : Piloting, test-beds, systems validation in real-world working conditions, validations of business models, pre-normative research, and standard-setting. What for? 'last push‘ for a product, service or process ; Increased participation of industry. Commercialization- maturity for market take up no more than 3 years; stimulate private sector investment
How are the winners chosen? EVALUATION Under the FTI grant proposals are evaluated by independent experts, on the basis of three award criteria Innovation and technology Execution Business, benefits IMPACT is the most significant part in the evaluation (50% of the final grade, while the two other criteria are 25% each) The grade for each criterion is from 0 to 5
A few more highlights Application size is 30 pages Threshold to be considered for funding is 13 (but actual funding requires a much higher grade) The threshold for 'Impact' and 'Excellence' is 4 The threshold for 'implementation' is 3 Evaluation process “through an investor’s eyes” No dilution ; 70% funding + 25% overhead
How is the funding of the project calculated? 70% funding of the project 25% overhead (= indirect costs ) calculated automatically from direct costs and other direct costs Example: Direct costs (personnel, travel, equipment) = 100 Euros Subcontracting = 50 Euros Overhead (=Indirect costs) calculated from the direct costs of 100 Euros: 25 Euros Overall budget of the project: 175 Euros EU contribution of 70%: 122.5 Euros (70% of 175)

How can ISERD assist? Ongoing guidance and support in submission ISERD website - FTI (webinars, FTI guide , reports, links and more) Red Team ( It is free…!) Preliminary review of Israeli proposals before the submission, by expert evaluators from the IIA. The draft proposal must be final and sent to ISERD at least one month before the deadline! For returning submitters (with a grade 13+) or SME Phase 1 / 2 winners or EIC Accelerator winners
