Course Requirements • 4 credits of English • 4 credits of Math (including Algebra II) • 3 credits of Science (including 1 Physical,1 Life Science) • 3 credits of Social Studies (including American History, Government, ½ credit of World Studies) • ½ credit of PE, ½ credit of Health • 6 elec1ves (including 1 Fine Arts-visual or performing) • 21 total credits

  5. Competency Requirements • Tests take place in ELA II, Algebra I, *Geometry, Biology, American History, and Government. • Tests are given online during April/May during the school year in which that subject is taken. • Must have proficient scores in Algebra I and ELA II. • Students must complete a mandatory English Enrichment and/ or Math Enrichment remedia1on prior to retake in that test area. • Retakes are offered in December and April for sophomores-seniors.

  6. Competency Requirements • If students do not earn a proficient score in ELA II and/or Algebra I a\er ini1al a]empt/retakes, they must meet one of the following alterna1ve pathways: – Earn college credit in that subject area; OR – Commit to a branch of the armed forces; OR – Show career readiness through a program at Tri Rivers Career Center.

  7. Readiness Requirement • All students must earn 2 diploma seals. At least one seal must be an Ohio issued seal. • Some seals are based on scores from other state tes1ng (Biology, American History, Government). • Local seals are based on community service, enrollment in fine arts courses, or par1cipa1on in extra curricular ac1vi1es.

  8. General Scheduling Informa1on • School day is the same length as the MS. -7:30am-2:15pm • Plan to schedule 7-8 classes. -7 classes if you want a study hall, 8 classes if you do not want a study hall. • Students may not have more than one study hall unless they have approval via an IEP/504.

  9. Tracks of Study • Tech Prep – Students who struggle in certain academic areas. – NCAA Div. I/II does NOT approve Tech or Applied core courses. • College Prep – College bound students. – Higher expecta1ons, faster pace, more in depth.

  10. College Credit Plus (CCP) • The opportunity to take and earn college credits while in high school. See handout. • 2 ways to take college courses: – 1) Dual Enrollment CCP via Marion Technical College, Columbus State Community College, or Ashland University: • Taught at PHS by PHS teachers, see course list handout of CCP classes. • Part of the student’s daily schedule. • All dual enrollment classes can be take for HS credit only.

College Credit Plus (CCP) • 2 ways to take college courses: - 2) On campus • Taken at Marion Technical College, The Ohio State University-Marion, or any other higher educa1on ins1tu1on. • Students a]end PHS for a par1al day or full day and then a]end their college class. • Par1al day typically only done senior year. • Online is an op1on, too.

  12. CCP Benefits • Experience with college level courses. • Earn credits toward general educa1on curriculum to be transferred to the college you a]end. • Earn a cer1ficate or degree. • Explore classes within a major you want to pursue.

  13. CCP Risks • Higher college level expecta1ons (lots of reading, fewer grades, more study 1me required), responsibility, work load. • Grades are included on the HS & college transcript. • Lose explora1on 1me in college if all general ed. classes are taken. • Charged the cost of tui1on, books, fees for any course failed or withdrawn. ($350-$600 or more)

Graduate Pathways to Success Program (via MTC) • See handout. • Otherwise known as the GPS program. • Aimed at incoming freshmen. • Targets 6 pathways: – Associate’s of Arts or Science Degree – Cer1ficate of Exercise Science, Medical Assis1ng, Business Administra1on, Robo1cs, and pathway for Criminal Jus1ce/Law Enforcement – Developing pathways in Associate’s of Electrical Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree

CCP Par1cipa1on • Le]er of intent-signed and return to HS guidance office by April 1 st of previous school year. • Must apply, meet admissions requirements for the college issuing the CCP credit. – Deadlines and admissions requirements vary depending on the college and the class. – Accuplacer tes1ng at Pleasant MS; scores good for 5 years. – Students taking a class on campus must schedule with a college advisor. – Students taking a dual enrollment CCP class @ Pleasant will be automa1cally scheduled with the college.

  22. Science • Physical Science • Biology • Chemistry I, Biology II, Physical Science II, Gene1cs (1 sem), Forensics (1 sem) • * Basic Anatomy & Physiology-dual enrollment • 4 semester hrs from Marion Technical College

Science • *Anatomy & Physiology I, II-dual enrollment • 8 semester hrs from Marion Technical College • *Chemistry II-dual enrollment • 9 semester hours from Marion Technical College • *Physics-dual enrollment • 5 semester hrs of Introductory Physics from Columbus State Community College • Chemistry I is the pre-requisite course to all dual enrollment science courses listed above.
