NSF INFEWS/T1: Modeling Water System and Societal Constraints on Increasing Regional Production of Food and Energy in New England (March 2017) Food Production Scenarios: Currently, four of the six New England States have statewide food system plans or strategies (MAPC, 2015; New Hampshire Food Alliance, 2015; Maine Food Strategy, 2016; Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, 2013). While Rhode Island does not yet have a statewide plan, it has assessed its food system and identified action areas to inform the planning process (Karp & Partners, 2016). A common focus across these documents is expanding food production and/or the agricultural land base . A New England Food Vision describes a future in which New England produces at least half of the region’s food by 2060 via an expansion of agricultural lands from 2 million to 6-7 million acres (Donahue et al., 2014). Food Solutions New England’s commitment to furthering this vision has been codified in a series of annual New England food system summits beginning in 2011. T. Kelly MSU CRFS 2019

“This family did not exist before – everyone was doing things individually, but now they are mobilized and working together – moving Bridgeport Food Policy Council along, have asked Me to be advisor where before I couldn’t get a seat. Four people who were at Summit are now on Food Policy Council and now that council is making stuff happen.” Senator Marilyn Moore T. Kelly EcoG 2018
