Fulton Middle School 2014-15 Building Level SMART Goal #2 Area of Emphasis: Science (8 th ) The percentage of students scoring Proficient or Advanced in Science will increase from 47.3% to 60% by the end of the 2014-15 school year as measured by the MAP assessment administered in the Spring of 2015. ¡

Restructuring ¡of ¡FMS ¡Science ¡Classes ¡ Currently: ¡ ¡6 th ¡Grade ¡= ¡Physical ¡Science ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡7 th ¡Grade ¡= ¡Life ¡Science ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ 8 th ¡Grade ¡= ¡Earth ¡Science ¡ Late ¡1990’s ¡thru ¡early ¡2000’s ¡each ¡grade ¡level ¡taught ¡a ¡little ¡of ¡each ¡ subject ¡since ¡the ¡MAP ¡test ¡was ¡given ¡in ¡the ¡7 th ¡grade. ¡ Changed ¡to ¡specific ¡grade ¡level ¡subjects ¡when ¡the ¡MAP ¡test ¡was ¡ changed ¡to ¡be ¡given ¡in ¡the ¡8 th ¡grade. ¡ ¡ ▪ ¡ This ¡provided ¡continuity ¡between ¡the ¡concepts. ¡ ¡ ▪ ¡ FHS ¡requested ¡Earth ¡Science ¡be ¡taught ¡in ¡8 th ¡grade ¡since ¡it ¡was ¡included ¡ on ¡the ¡10 th ¡grade ¡MAP ¡test ¡and ¡not ¡at ¡all ¡at ¡FHS ¡ ¡ ▪ ¡ Allowed ¡fewer ¡books ¡to ¡be ¡purchased ¡since ¡we ¡didn’t ¡have ¡to ¡have ¡all ¡of ¡ the ¡different ¡content ¡area ¡sets ¡for ¡every ¡teacher. ¡
