1 FAMILY DIVERSITY text of presentation FAMILY (DEFINITION) Group of people who are related to each other, such as a mother, a father, and their children. A social group of parents, children, and sometimes grandparents, uncles, aunts, and others who are related. FAMILIY (IN SOCIOLOGY) Family as an institution meet different roles: it has an educational and social character, oriented toward mutual help and looking after each other. FAMILY TYPES Nuclear family: formed by parents and their offspring Monoparental family: The offspring live with just one of the parents. Homoparental family: it is the kind of family where an homosexual couple have their own children. Family of divorced parents: They are no longer a couple but they should meet their roles towards their offspring, no matter how distant they are. FAMILY PANK It is a new family type specially in developed countries. PANK (Professional AUnt No Kids) defined these new group of women that having a professional life and having decided they do not want kids or postponed, have a strong affective bond with their nephewsor nieces, godchildren, or friends´ children. FAMILY TYPES: DINK "Dinks"(DoubleIncomeNoKids), are couples between 25 and 40, that live together, have doube incomes and do not expect children in the near future. ASSEMBLED FAMILIES Assembled family: an assembled family is a family where each parent, or just one, brings their own offspring from former relationships. There are many types of assembled families.
2 MULTIGENERACIONAL FAMILY An extended family is a family that extends beyond the nuclear family, consisting of parents like father, mother, and their children, aunts, uncles, and cousins, all living nearby or in the same household. POLYNUCLEAR FAMILY Group of people that live together, existing more than one nuclear family, where some of them could not be part of any of those nuclear family. Z UNIPERSONAL FAMILY Compound for just one person. It is a growing tendency and it will be considerably increasing in the next three decades. NOMO FAMILY It is referred to "No Mother," women that have decided not to become mothers and to dedicated more time to grow in other areas such as job, self-improvement, or academically.A N S FAMILY LAT (LIVING APART TOGETHER) Couples in serious and stable relationships that decided to not live together. H I FAMILY STAY AT HOME DAD P Man that stays at home to take care of household chores and raising kids.
