Helmut Neumann, University of Erlangen Our experience with telemedicine • very low Our expectation for the future • very high Suggested activities in Europe • Exchange of medical knowledge to make highest-quality health care available to all = benefit for patients, healthcare systems and society • Potential pitfalls: • Licensing, accreditation and registration of professionals • Liability • Reimbursement • Conflict of jurisdictions • Data protection The 7th Asia Telemedicine Symposium, 2013 4
Helmut Neumann, University of Erlangen Suggested activities in Europe - To start - • International workshops and conferences • Experts are performing lectures and endoscopic live- cases • Collaboration between Asian Pacific and European societies (e.g. ESGE) and national societies (e.g. German society for gastroenterology). Conclusion • Telemedicine is not yet established in Europe, especially not in Germany. • We see a huge potential, even for our university hospital, to participate in telemedicine. • Some pitfalls, including legal issues and data protection have to be solved. • One fast and early step could be the organization of international workshops and conferences (e.g. for endoscopy).
