  5. EXAMINATION DAY PROTOCOL If you are running late Call main reception as soon as possible and inform a member of staff of the issue. • When the student arrives they need to report to main reception where they will be picked up by a member of the examinations • team and escorted to the examination. If the student arrives later than 10.00am they can still sit the examination but it is at the discretion of the examination board • whether or not they accept the paper. All internet enabled devices will be removed from the student. • If you are ill The student must attend school if at all possible (separate rooms can be arranged if absolutely necessary ). • Call the school as soon as possible and report the absence – state that this is due to illness. • If medical advice/support is pursued then a copy of the doctors note needs to be forwarded to the school. • Absence (with no legitimate reason given) Unless a verifiable reason is ascertained for the students absence then the cost of the entry will be charged. •

  6. EXAMINATION RESULTS GCSE results day is Thursday the 20 th August 2020. • Please collect results from Place House (Sixth Form Centre). • We are not allowed to email out student results. • If the student is unable to collect in person but would like them sent home via post on results day please provide the • examinations office with a stamped addressed envelope prior to the Summer holidays. If someone else is picking the results up on behalf of the student then the third party will need a note signed by the student that • gives them permission to do so. Without this note we are unable to release the results envelope.

  7. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION Mock grades and teacher assessments are NOT used as a guide to award grade(s) if a student is absent. It will show as an ‘X’ • on the statement of results. If a student is absent for no reason then no marks will be awarded for that paper. • Special consideration will be applied for on the day of the examination if there are extenuating circumstances that have • affected the performance of the candidate DURING THAT EXAMINATION . For example, temporary illness, a long term medical condition or extreme personal circumstances. The maximum support applied by the examination boards to any paper/mark is a 5% increase – this is awarded in only the most • grave of situations. If a student or parent believes that a special consideration case needs to be raised then then must contact the examinations • officer as soon as possible and where possible via email. We are not informed of the % increase that may be applied. We are only informed if the case was accepted or declined. •

  8. EXAMINATION CLASHES Examination clashes occur when examinations are timetabled to start at the same time. • The public examinations are externally set by the examination boards. • Clashes are unlikely but can be possible at GCSE level. • If a student is taking 2 or more examinations in a session and the total time is 3 hours or less then they will be entitled to a • supervised break of no more than 20 minutes between papers within a session. This break will be conducted within the examination room and under formal examination conditions at all times. If a student is taking 2 or more papers timetabled in a session and the total time is more than 3 hours then the examination(s) will • be split and conducted between an AM and PM session within the same day. The time between the examinations would be supervised (as mentioned above). Candidates can revise during examination breaks but will not be allowed any electronic device or have access to the internet. •

  9. FAQ’S Can you move the examination if it is not at a convenient time? No • What is malpractice? Any event which compromises the integrity of the examination. For example, communicating verbally or • non verbally whilst in the examination room, causing a distraction to others, being in possession of an internet enabled device and/or any conduct which brings into question the school and its ability to conduct examinations as stipulated by JCQ. Which adults are allowed in the room? Members of the examination team and invigilators (these can be staff as well as • volunteers trained to support the examinations officer) readers, scribes and support staff as needed by individual candidates. What happens in the event of a fire? Students will be evacuated to a separate site, they must remain silent and in seat order. • Special consideration will also be applied for the whole cohort.
