What is Evidence Based Advocacy? • Advocacy • the act or process of supporting a cause or proposal • Evidence Based Advocacy • To achieve evidence based advocacy you must have evidence based practice • Data to shape policy and effect change on a broad scale
How does evidence based advocacy apply to me? • Evidenced based advocacy requires at the most basic level the following: • Information/data • Ability to collate data • Ability to extrapolate trends and shifts from research
Evidence Based Practice • Collection development • Programming • Budget
The Next Step: Evidenced Based Advocacy • Evaluating your surroundings “inside” the library • Take 15 minutes and walk around inside the building • What services do you offer that produce warm and fuzzy feelings • Evaluating your surroundings “outside” the library • Civic groups • Non-profits • Other government agencies or entities
Matchmaker, matchmaker, find me a match • Match up with organizations that you have lots in common with • Play matchmaker or facilitator to connect organizations to each other
