Why change Boundaries (again!)? • The 2015 Bond funded the building of elementary school 16 at Clearwater Creek. • In 2016, the district received $51M from the state to reduce class size. • Those funds will be used to expand elementary school 16, build a dual language school and expand the size of Amistad Elementary.

  7. Boundary Board Priorities •The Board prioritized Neighborhood Schools as the highest boundary priority followed by attempts to balance some of the ethnicity, poverty, and program issues after that.

Boundary Development • Boundaries are developed using the following process: • The school district is divided into a number of small neighborhood grids. • The population within each grid is identified in terms of grade level, ethnicity, poverty, and program. • The neighborhoods are combined to create school boundaries.

School Choice Criteria for Prioritizing • Students who live outside of a school’s boundaries may request transfer with the following order priority: • Boundary moved/previously attended and will be in the 5 th grade for 2018-2019. Parents must provide transportation. • Live in Kennewick School District but outside of the school’s boundary. Parents must provide transportation. • Live outside Kennewick School District (Out of District Request). Regular procedures followed. Parent must provide transportation.

  12. School Choice • School Board decision on boundaries November 8 • Next School Indicator letters go out in late November. (K-8) • Letters include school placement • School choice procedure • In district transfers accepted until January 26. • Decisions made on transfer requests on February 9. • Transfer request decisions mailed home on February 23.
