Finalist Cities are invited to give a presentation to the jury WHEN? Just before the Awards Ceremony (June 2017) WHERE? In the European Green Capital (2017: Essen) - tbc Evaluation criteria – European Green Leaf Award 1) The city’s overall commitment, strategy and enthusiasm. Jury Meeting 2) The city’s efforts to communicate to citizens and citizens’ and Report engagement in environmental activities. 3) The city’s potential to act as a ‘green ambassador’, promoting good practice and spreading the EGL concept further. Presentation and Q&A session Jury Report (announcing the winner and listing strong points of all finalists) is drafted by the Secretariat and published on the website.

Part A: City Introduction and Context • First impression of your application • Read by ALL experts IMPORTANT to include: • Statistical data • Which geographic or historic factors have a major impact on the environment? • Recent trends (last 5-10 years)
Part B: Topic Areas Climate Change and Energy Performance Mobility Biodiversity and Land Use Quality of Air and the Acoustic Environment Waste Management and Circular Economy Water and Wastewater Management
Major part of the application form Used for expert ranking Topic Areas are often a combination of two areas, i.e. ‘Water’ and ‘Wastewater’ B : Topic Areas Management: It is crucial to address both in your application! Failure to address may result in lower ranking. Per topic area, 900 words and 6 graphics/ images
Part C: Good Practices Good practices are not taken into account for technical ranking. All relevant information should therefore also be mentioned in Section B! Select (up to) three good practices IndicateTopic Area(s) for each good practice Provide pictures (graphs, tables, images) Describe objectives, target groups, time frame List concrete results (i.e. number of jobs generated, number of participants to an event, amount of savings made, …) Provide links for further information, if available If good practice(s) selected, you may be contacted by the Secretariat for further information.
Format of your application Applications should be submitted in English. All information shall be included in the application form: No appendices containing additional text will be accepted. Graphics, images, tables etc to be contained within the body of text. All graphics etc must be individually labelled and referenced. (This is not taken into account for the word limitation.) Make sure images and graphics are of high quality. Application forms must be submitted as one word document.
Where and how to start an application process? 1. Detailed study of application form and guidance note; contact the Secretariat in case of questions 2. Team building and planning: One team member to have document control 3. Completion phase 4. Checking, translation/ proofreading 5. Submission
Concrete Steps – How to apply? 1. Register your interest via the online portal: http://www.euconf.eu/egc-egl-application/ 2. You will receive per email: supporting documentation, the mayoral declaration form and application form in word format. 3. The Secretariat will help you to open your city dossier on the European Commission’s CIRCABC Forum. 4. Submit your mayoral declaration as soon as it is signed. Your application is NOT valid without a signed mayoral declaration. 5. Submit your application as one single word document BEFORE 3 NOVEMBER 2016 at 4.00 p.m. 6. The road to success … (1) Carefully read the application form and guidance note, before organising your work. Get inspiration from supporting documentation (i.e. application forms of previous winners, videos, good practice reports). Make full use of the given limits of words, graphs and images! Structure your answer before drafting; concentrate on the most relevant information. Make full use of the good practices, this is likely to increase your city’s visibility (via the Good Practice Report). If you re-apply: Carefully read the expert comments of yourTechnicalAssessment Report, think how negative comments can be addressed. Allow plenty of time to complete your application.
