Academic Service-Learning ¨ Service rooted in and intrinsically linked to teaching and research. ¨ Focuses on problem-oriented research and teaching. ¨ Promotes learning through service. ¨ Emphasizes student and faculty reflection on the service experience. ¨ Fosters structural community improvement including effective public schools, neighborhood development, and community organizations. Engaged Faculty Fellows • CCE awards 6 summer stipends of $2,500 each to faculty who have committed to creating courses that incorporate a significant component of civic engagement and service-learning into the course curriculum. • Faculty participate in workshops that introduce them to key concepts and practices in civic engagement and service- learning. They also share what they’ve learned from having taught these courses so that other faculty can learn from their experiences.
Civic Scholars Program The Civic Scholars Program encourages students to become engaged citizens and cultivates their capacity to create positive social change in their communities. Through the program, students interested in civic and community engagement, volunteer service, and leadership have the opportunity to receive recognition as a UM Civic Scholar. Civic Scholars is a collaborative project of the Office of Civic and Community Engagement and the Butler Center for Service and Leadership at the University of Miami.
