Model of the Electronic Course Evaluation System (Campus Labs) Using USM’s Green University-wide Items Course Evaluation Form Each department can Optional Items add items, in addition to using the Green Form Department-Specific Items items…. Electronic Course Evaluation Pilot Fall 2013 Semester Number of Students=11,081 Number of Courses=744 Overall Response Rate: approx 45% (Some courses had much higher response rates) Tip for Boosting Response Rates: According to the research from other institutions using online course evaluations, the faculty members who encourage students in their classes to complete the evaluation and tell them how they use the evaluation results for improving the course, get the highest response rates on electronic course evaluations.
Electronic Course Evaluation (ECE) Process Automatic Distribution of Email Messages Faculty Announcement Email : Distributed 2-3 weeks before the end of the course Announces the actual dates of the evaluation period Announces the option to add course-specific items Tips to boost response rates Faculty Reminder Email : Distributed during the evaluation time period Faculty can encourage their students to complete eval Student Announcement Email : Distributed on first day of evaluation period Announces procedures to complete evaluation/deadline Announces any incentives Student Reminder Emails : Distributed periodically during the evaluation period Only to students who have not responded Faculty Results Email : After evaluation period closes, faculty will receive results Only after grades have been posted
Faculty Interface Faculty Portal: https://usm.campuslabs.com/faculty *Faculty log-in using MaineStreet ID and password *Faculty should see a list of their courses currently teaching *Faculty can click on the appropriate icons for the following functions: 1) Add course-specific questions (before evaluation period begins) 2) View response rates (once evaluation starts) 3) View results (once final grades are posted) See examples of the faculty portal, and reporting features on following slides.

Student Interface Student Course Eval Link: https://usm.campuslabs.com/CourseEval Student Process: 1) Login with MaineStreet ID and password 2) Students will see a list of their current courses 3) Students click on the button next to the course name to begin the course evaluation for that course 4) Students repeat process for their next course evaluation to complete --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *The student link is only active during the course evaluation time period. *Students can complete all their online evals at once or anytime during the evaluation time period (see timeline on assessment website). See example of student portal on next slide.
Timeline for Course Evaluation Period Each semester, there are two evaluation time periods. * Evaluation 1: Courses that end mid-semester (i.e. 5 or 7 week courses) * Evaluation 2: Full-semester courses (i.e. 12-15 week courses) A specific timeline is posted on the Assessment website for each semester.
