  3.  The country has been growing at a stable rate 7% per year, making it the world's sixth-fastest-growing economy.  The growth has been mostly driven by trade sector — manufactures (textiles and clothing), a booming tourism industry, growth in construction and, an increase in agricultural exports.  Cambodia has benefited from preferential market access offered by its main trading partners, such as China, the European Union, Japan, the US and the ASEAN partners, etc.

  5.  The RGC has promoted an inclusive and a sustainable development by integrating environmental issues into sub-national policy and planning processes and sectoral investment programs.  The environmental impact study and/or assessment, therefore, on trade and sectoral investment programs has always been respected and considered by the Government.  Under AfT programme, EIF Tier 2 CEDEP II- Marine Fisheries component, the environmental impact assessment was successfully conducted and its key finding was also shared and disseminated with respective stakeholders.

  6.  The importance of mainstreaming gender into the development context has been recognized in a number of Cambodian laws and policy platforms.  The female labour force participation rate is 71% of all women 15 year of age and older is in the workforce. However, the majority of female workers are self-employed or are unpaid family workers in the informal sector primarily in small-holder farming and small family enterprise.  Under 2-CEDEP I-high value silk component, together with ITC as the main implementing entity, the EIF has supported the move towards producing handmade high-value silk benefitting poor women in rural areas, most of whom depend on silk production for their livelihood. As a result, the women weavers' average monthly income from silk weaving increased by 100% from 2012 to 2014.
