The Educational Portal of the Americas stands as the digital educational strategy of the OAS Human Development, Education and Employment Department, which aims to generate opportunities for professional development and institutional capacities strenghtening for educational innovation in OAS Member States.
During the III Summit of the Americas, as a result of the Since 200 1, the Educational “ Connecting the Americas” initiative held in Quebec – Portal has given more than Canada in April 2001, the OAS was mandated to support 30.000 scholarships to citizens human potential using new technologies of information from 34 countries. and comunication - ICT (AG / RES. 5154/11). The Educational Portal of the Americas was launched during the II Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Education, in Punta del Este Uruguay, on September 24-25, 2001. During the 2011 General Asembly, the Educational Portal was aknowledged as an strategic program for advancing human development and competitiveness through professional development and institutional capacity building.

New Portal Overview The Educational Portal of the Americas seeks to develop knowledge and capacities in citizens and institutions from the OAS Member States; aiming to strengthen their leadership skills to design and implement innovative policies, programs and practices to guarantee an inclusive, equitable and quality education.

Latin American Network of Science, Technology and Innovation Fair Leaders (Year 2016): 30 Leaders – 15 countries Inquiry-based learning as a Pedagogical Strategy for Higher Education; partnered with The Higher Consortium of Universities in Central America -CSUCA- (Year 2016): 102 university teachers from 7 countries in Central America. Strengthening Institutional Capacities for Innovation in Education; partnered with the Ministry of Education of Saint Lucia (Years 2016 and 2017): 450 teachers and 29 school principals. Institutional Capacities Development for Educational Innovation in STEAM areas; partnered with Tecnoacademias – SENA – Colombia (Year 2017 -2018): 10 Technical schools, 115 instructors/teachers.

How could the Portal contribute to the Inter-American Education Agenda? Lines of action Working Groups 2 and 3 Regionalizing the training offer available for teachers and other early childhood educational agents that are of relevance to the Inter-American Education Agenda: • Coordinate the educational offers available in the countries • Manage and disseminate information of open educational offers • Design and implement a digital strategy to strengthen the regional educational offer Lines of action Working Group 1 Designing and implementing virtual courses tailored to the needs of each Ministry of Education. Training teachers and school principals through the current Portal’s course catalogue, in association with the Ministries of Education.

Designing and implementing a digital strategy that include: Lines of action Working Groups 1, 2 and 3 • Develop a map to geo-locate initiatives and a resource center to identify, analyze, and promote innovative policies, programs, and experiences oriented towards improving quality in education and comprehensive early childhood care and education, and strengthening of the teaching profession. Lines of action Working Groups 1, 2 and 3 • Create a Virtual Network for the Ministries of Education in the region to promote the exchange of information and collaboration on policies approaches. • Plan and develop thematic events, education forums, and regional workshops. • Create an Interactive catalogue for teacher training offer and for early childhood integral attention (managed by the Educational Portal and fed online by the Ministries of Education and their associated institutions)
