EDİRNE Our school – Edirne High School- takes its name from our city. Edirne is a border city with Greece and Bulgaria in northwestern Turkey. The city is a bridge between Turkey and Europe.

Edirne is a city with a long history and it was named after the Roman emperor Hadrianus. It was the second capital city of the Ottoman Empire and it served as the capital for nearly 90 years. Thanks to its long history, Edirne has numerous historical sites, among which Selimiye Mosque , a World Heritage Site since 2011, is the most outstanding one. With its 80 metres long minarets rising up in the sky, it is a source of endless magnificent poses for photographers in every season.

Besides The Selimiye Mosque, the city hosts many other historical sites, numerous other mosques, bridges over its three rivers, churches and a large synagogue, bazaars, baths, mansions, monuments and etc.

2017 marks the 657th year of Kırkpınar Oily Wrestling Competition, which is held in Edirne and it is in the Intangible Cultural Heritage list of UNESCO.

Edirne High School was founded in 1857, which makes it the oldest high school in our city and one of the oldest in Turkey.

This year(2017), Edirne High School is celebrating its 160th anniversary. Over the course of these 160 years, thousands of students have been educated here and among these graduates there are people from every walk of life such as, ministers, mayors, professors, soldiers, academicians, doctors and etc. and they live all over Turkey and the world. Our school has a museum and in this museum you can experience its long history.

This is our main building. Our classrooms, canteen, library, conference hall and administration offices are all here. All of our classrooms are equipped with a smart board and most students have laptops given by the ministry of education .
