“EDIFY” 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 Pastor David R. King
2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others .”
Ne New
“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
“If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.
“If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved — even though only as one escaping through the flames.”

What am I building? How Who am I am I building? building?
EDIFY – an ECB value 1) Edification has a definition.
EDIFY – an ECB value 1) Edification has a definition. • To edify means to build, build up, encourage, increase or serve. Isaiah 57:14; Ephesians 4:11-13
“ Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people .”
“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…
“… until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
“And I tell you that… on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
“Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.”
“As you come to [Jesus], the living Stone – rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him – you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
EDIFY – an ECB value 2) Edification expresses Jesus’ righteousness. • It fulfills the law. Matthew 22:35-40
One of [the Pharisees], an expert in the law, tested [Jesus] with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
EDIFY – an ECB value 2) Edification expresses Jesus’ righteousness. • It fulfills the law.
EDIFY – an ECB value 3) Edification is proved genuine by its object. • First, others and not me. Philippians 2:1-4
“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
“then make my joy complete by being like -minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others .”
EDIFY – an ECB value 3) Edification is proved genuine by its object. • Second, overlooked others. Matthew 25:37-40
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
EDIFY – an ECB value 3) Edification is proved genuine by its object. “To the least of these” is an imitation of Jesus and an offering to Jesus.
