  2. Background on eDay/FID Presented three years ago when Mr. Friend challenged CASD staff to propose creative means to cut costs and/or increase efficiencies. The idea gained nation-wide attention last year after an unusually high number of school cancellations due to weather. This past fall, PDE presented the opportunity for LEAs to develop plans.

  3. Committee Administrators All educational levels All Program Chairs Special Education Teachers CAEA President Every elementary grade level Learning support Secondary core subjects Technology resource teachers

  4. Considerations • Appropriate learning for all students in assignments and instructional time • Special education services • Value compared to make-up days for learning and attendance • Student access to technology-based resources • Parental involvement • Power/Internet outages for students and teachers

  5. Opportunities Continue with the school year without disruption to the schedule “Fill” the snow day Develop time management and independent learning strategies Adopt other ‘virtual’ learning opportunities

  6. Lessons • Natural extension of the classroom learning • Academically rigorous • Relevant to the curriculum • Valuable throughout year • Online, offline, or combination • Utilize resources already in practice or previewed • Available in hard-copy prior to eDay with accommodations • Assessment or process to verify completion • Posted prior to eDay

  7. Students • Notification of eDay status using same protocol as typical school closing or delay. • All students will follow that day’s regular schedule to complete assignments. • Hard copy will be available first day back to school. • Assignments will be due within three days of assigned eDay.

  8. Teachers • Using model lesson templates, develop the foundation of the lesson prior to eDay. • Update lesson prior to 9 am on eDay. • Post the method of communication and be ‘virtually’ available on eDay. • Grade completion of the assignment as participation in an eDay.

  9. Parents Communication to share… • eDay plan • Resources for lessons and support • Expectations of students • Assistance by parents

  10. Professional Development and Evaluation • Continue with professional development to expand use of online resources • Administrative review of participation following eDay • Annual review of plan and communication
