Ofsted’s second report into the impact of the pandemic • Being out of the setting had “significantly impacted the learning and development” of those who left and returned. • Interviewees reported lower confidence and more anxiety in children. • 53% reported a decline in children’s personal, social and emotional development.

In response to changes in children’s needs providers made various adjustments: • Increased focus on key areas of learning, especially on social and emotional development, and personal hygiene. • Increased outdoor playtime and focus on motor skills since many children had spent more time indoors and become more sedentary. • Focussed on kindness, listening and taking turns to help children settle in again.
