SAFETYFirst Cross border operation in Scandinavia in a historical perspective • Cross border operation without changing of staff has existed between Sweden and Norway since 1993. • Between Sweden and Denmark since 2000. • The national railway company in the countries involved has had the responsibility for the safety on its part of the border. • The difficulties have among other things been Different traffic rules Different signal systems Different languages Different current/voltage crossing Öresund 3
SAFETYFirst Barriers • Technical barrier: • ATC • Immaterial barriers: • Education taking charge of similarities in respective operating system and focusing on differences • Restrictions in operating rules, for instance low speed in case ATC should stop functioning (under revaluation) • A language model is being used to avoid missunderstanding. 4
