How to pat a dog: - Ask owner first if dog is friendly and if it is ok to pat it - Bend down to dog’s eye level and let dog come to you - Do not run up to the dog and stand over it and pat it on top of head, feet or tail ( ! scary for dog) - Do pat shoulders and chest Do not touch/pat: a sleeping dog a dog that is eating a dog with puppies an aggressive/angry dog or a fearful (scared) dog a dog that may have rabies

  8. Vaccinating dogs (giving them an injection) and doing family planning surgery prevents the spread of rabies

Additional topics to discuss if time: • Grooming and washing regularly • Flea and worm control • What to feed your dog • Walk your dog every day and use a leash • Stop your dog from wandering – keep in the house or yard • Don’t tie your dog up for hours – they get bored, become angry and territorial and bark a lot • Family planning surgery (sterilisation) and annual injections (vaccinations)
