DIVERSITY IN MUSIC AWARD OF THE CONSEIL DES ARTS DE MONTRÉAL and its partners: ARTE MUSICA, CENTRE DES MUSICIENS DU MONDE, MUNDIAL MONTRÉAL, PLACE DES ARTS, RADIO-CANADA and VISION DIVERSITÉ Award presentation 2018
DIVERSITY IN MUSIC AWARD OF THE CONSEIL DES ARTS DE MONTRÉAL and its partners: ARTE MUSICA, CENTRE DES MUSICIENS DU MONDE, MUNDIAL MONTRÉAL, PLACE DES ARTS, RADIO-CANADA and VISION DIVERSITÉ PREAMBLE The Diversity in Music Award brings together seven partners (the Conseil des arts de Montréal, Arte Musica, the Centre des musiciens du monde, Mundial Montréal, Place des Arts, Radio-Canada and Vision Diversité) to offer support for creation, production, recording and dissemination, for a one-year period, to two artists’ collectives that are representative of Montreal’s cultural diversity. 1 OBJECTIVE OF THE AWARD The objective of this award is to raise the profile of two collectives of professional artists whose practice reflects a diversity of artistic expressions. With this award, the Conseil des arts de Montréal and its partners wish to encourage the full participation of all artists in the city’s artistic life while at the same time giving momentum to their professional careers. In addition, the award can contribute to diversifying audiences in Montreal’s various presentation venues. DESCRIPTION OF THE AWARD To better address the needs of artists and the reality of the arts community, the Diversity in Music Award has two components: “ Exploration based on an established musical tradition ”, and “ Creation based on new or emerging forms of music ” (see details below). Each collective must choose beforehand the component best suited to its artistic practice. The Diversity in Music Award allows the winning collectives to create new musical works and prepare a new concert or musical performance in the framework of an artistic circuit lasting several months. The two circuits will include help and support for creation, production, recording, dissemination and touring. To facilitate the necessary follow-up for the implementation of this award, the collective must designate one of its member artists as project director . This person must maintain regular and direct contact with each of the persons responsible appointed by the partners, at each stage of the project. The names of the two winners will be announced at the Annual Meeting of Partners of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, to be held June 7, 2018. Once their names are announced, the two winning collectives must be available for performances, rehearsals, residencies and concerts during the following schedule of engagements, depending on the circuit selected: 1 For a definition of this term, see the Conseil des arts de Montréal glossary (French only): https://www.artsmontreal.org/media/artistes/aide/financement/transitoire/Glossaire_VF.pdf. 2 Diversity in Music Award 2018
