EMAES – the short version • Target group: highly qualified mid-career persons • International one year MA-program, part time & web based • Master of Science in European Studies (M.Sc.) (60hec). • 20 students per year, first round enrolled in September 2016 • No tuition fees, but costs for 7 on-campus meetings in Gothenburg • Multi-disciplinary; international; scientific method; societal involvement • Open for various academic backgrounds: BA in e.g. Business, Law, Behavioural Science, Engineering, Social Science, Humanities • At least 5 years work experience in the field of European Affairs • An employer that support that the employee enrol as student

EMAES integrate methods teaching in the 7 courses Core courses • Co-operation and Conflict in Europe (7,5 hec) • European Market Integration (7,5 hec) • Europe as a Global Actor (7,5 hec) • Research Methods (15 hec) • Master Thesis (15 hec) Semi-elective courses • Environment and Energy in European Integration (7,5 hec) • European Social Dimension (7,5 hec) -> Methods teaching integrated with other courses: learning the methods by immediately get to apply them to relevant materials and questions
Five entrance requirements, and one-month application period March 15-April 15 • BA diploma • Five years work life experience, in the field of European Affairs, and current employment within the field • English proficiency: English B/6 level or equivalent • Statement of intent (500 words) • CV • Endorsement from employer • Online application opens on 15 March and closes on 15 April. Notification about outcome of application distributed in July.
Challenges, as discovered during the first round • Approaching a workable ambition level and study tempo • Varying inclination for critical reflecting and the scientific method • Study coordination and coaching of busy business people • Online and distance learning vs. hands-on instruction
