Genesis Stands for Association for Rural Advancement through Voluntary Action and Local involvement ARAVALI is an autonomous organisation initiated by the Government of Rajasthan in 1994 to promote voluntary action for socio- economic development and facilitate collaboration between Government and the Voluntary Agencies in the state
Vision Statement “All round and large scale development requires a combination of efforts and approaches which cannot be provided by any one agency or system “To ensure that the benefits of development reach the poor in particular and people in general it is imperative that different agencies pool their strengths and become partners ” 3
Mission Within this context ARAVALI intends to ensure that there are increased number of effective partnerships working closely with marginalised communities in every district in Rajasthan and that an enabling environment is developed within which these partnerships can function 4
About ARAVALI … Registered under Rajasthan Society Registration Act, 1958 in the year1994 and began formal operations in 1997 Aims to Promote, Encourage, Assist and Involve VOs in Government Development Programmes Membership representation from both the Government and NGO sector Area of Operation : Rajasthan state Intensively working with more than 60 NGOs in the state and Extensively with 150 NGOs in the state 5
The Strategy Work with NGOs ; identify, enhance their Capacity; support them to understand NRM as a development issue; support them to understand the concept of livelihoods; enable them to take on Livelihood initiatives Work with Government ; facilitate to improve the environment for collaboration; understand ground level situations; encourage them to get into partnerships with NGOs Build complementary strengths for effective partnerships which work best for the people of the state 6

Targeting the Poorest Families through Family Livelihood Resource Centre’s (FLRC) Approach: ARAVALI has initiated an innovative approach of working with the poorest of the poor families in Rural Areas of Rajasthan state through Family Livelihood Resource Centre (FLRC). The prime objective of the FLRC is to provide a viable, sustainable and integrated livelihood model for efficiently mainstreaming the poorest of the poor families. Focusing on identification and selection of Poorest of the Poor families. Use of localised, region-specific poverty parameters Community perception & articulation of poverty dimensions 9
Targeting the Poorest Families through Family Livelihood Resource Centre’s (FLRC) Approach: Engagement with poorest families and focusing on Family / Household as a unit. Trained Local Rural Youths (Educated Class-8 th to Graduates) as Livelihood Facilitators on facilitation skills, process and information about various Government Schemes. Assessment of families based on Capitals (Human, Social, Financial, Physical, Natural and their Entitlements) along with their risks and vulnerability. Developing and delivering a customized package of Services Livelihood opportunities for sustained income generation Financial strengthening Entitlement linkages (Entitlement Tracking Sheet) Enterprise promotion of the poorest households. 10
Targeting the Poorest Families through Family Livelihood Resource Centre’s (FLRC) Approach: We worked in six districts of Rajasthan State namely Karauli, Ajmer, Nagaur, Jodhpur, Barmer and Banswara in the State and engaging with more than 5000 families to strengthen their livelihoods and ensuring entitlement linkages. Key Insights: Poverty as a dynamic phenomenon – limitations of snapshot-based assessments Entitlements access as key strategy to ensure survival 11
Convergence Initiative to reach out to 1 Lakh Self Help Groups members Convergence Initiative to engage with 1 Lakh Families of the SHG members in 25 districts and 54 blocks in Rajasthan State to ensure linkages and sanctioning of individual work of one lakh under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Individual beneficiary Scheme- Apna Khet Apna Kaam ). Developing Community Resource Persons (from local Self Help Groups women members) for taking up Convergence initiative in Rural Areas. Trained more than 350 Community Resource Persons for undertaking the convergence CRP drive in villages.
Convergence Initiative to reach out to 1 Lakh Self Help Groups members During Year 2016-17: 51,920 Category B works applications of SHGs members were filled in 58 Blocks of 20 districts. 16,101 Financial Sanction and mobilising approximately 160 Crores for these women beneficiaries who would other wise would not have access to these schemes. Key Insights: Collaboration and Convergence initiative between Government and Voluntary Organisations is very important for effective outreach to poor and facilitate inclusive growth. In current times role of Civil Society and Voluntary organisations is all the more important to take up innovative models, create awareness, training & capacity building, undertake research for knowledge generation, and document successful initiatives.
